Does anybody play? What instruments, what style of music? Go!

P.S. I know I've probably tried to make this thread before.

Progressive metal on a trombone? (I know you mean guitar for that particular
genre but the image was just to funny to pass up)

I don't doubt it can be done, and yes, it would might sound good
(If progressive metal was your thing). But if you were to hear it on
the radio for the first time, I'm pretty sure you would do a spit-take.
Just like the first time I heard Luther Wright and the Wrongs cover

« Reply #7 on: November 18, 2008, 21:53:33 EST »

Oh, damn my eyes. I am a butt.

I didn't read closely enough, and just absentmindedly listed the kinds of instruments I play, and the kinds of music I listen to. As for the kinds of music I play, I'm more or less an ex-trombonist (school band), and a beginning guitarist.

Interesting side note, using a trombone in progressive metal probably wouldn't be too weird for the style, given that part of the 'progressive' name is given due to its use of nonstandard instruments in metal. Dream Theater used a full orchestra in one of their album's live performances, for example.

I think Petrucci gives up tone for speed. Not a trade I would make.
